Use the present perfect simple, NOT the past simple, when you want to talk about things that have happened. look:

Monica has caught hundreds of fish.
(In her life, Monica has caught hundreds of fish. It is not important when he caught the fish.)

Use the past simple, not the present perfect simple, to talk about things that are finished.

Monica caught a fish this morning.
(This is a fact about the past. It´s finished but you know when it happened.)

Present perfect simple

This is the present perfect simple:

I have caught hundreds of fish
He has not caught any fish
Have you ever caught a fish?

This is the past simple

   I caught a fish yesterday.
He did not catch any fish last week
   Did he catch a fish?

Present perfect simple - Past simple

There is one verb that behaves badly! It is got two past participles.
Be careful when you use it in the present perfect simple.

Base verb     Past simple     Past participle
   Go                Went             Gone or Been

Look at the difference

Monica has gone fishing. = Monica is not here now, he is out fishing
Monica has been fishing  = Monica went out fishing, but he is back now

It was terrible!. I was reading a poem ar school when the hurricane hit my house.

Past simple

The past simple is to talk about yourself, other people, animals, or things before now. it is for things that are finished.

There was a big storm yesterday.
People did not like going out in it.
Did the storm start in the morning?

Past continuo

The past continuous is to say that somebody was in the middle of doing something. it is for a time before now, EJ at six o´clock yesterday, at three o´clock last night. on Saturday last week.

I was talking to Leonel at sic o´clock yesterday.
He was not working very hard last weekend.
Were they visiting friends last Monday?

Past simple and Past continuo

Often when you are in the middle of doing something, another thing, happens. Look at which action starts first:

First action                                              Second action
Past continuo                                             Past simple

Andres was reading a poem when...         the hurricane hit the town
Monica was making a potion when...         the chimney fell off the house

Use the past continuo for things you were in the middle of doing (First action)
Use the past simple when another thing happens (second action)

First action: Past continuo                        Second action: Past simple
Andres was watching TV when...                He heard a loud crash
Monica was talking to a patient when...       The course came in.

adverds

Adverbs of manner

Things to do when you are bored or  fed up

Go to a busy street. Imagine you are an elephant. Run down the pavement as fast as you can.

Say "tee, rinkle, crinkle, pinkle, tee" as loudly as possible without moving your lips. Do not worry - it does not mean anything.

find a friend. Pretend you are two tigers with a toothache. Try to do it really well. See if you can do it better than your friend.

and if none of these things cheers you up...   walk like a penguin all the way to school.

Remember!

Adverbs of manner tell you more about verbs. Making an adverb is easy: Adjective + ly

bad  --> badly        quick     --->     quickly

If the adjective ends in Y, change Y to I and add ly

noisy   --->   noisily       easy   --->   easily

Be careful! You should know these. If you do not, learn them now.

Good   --->  well       fast   --->   fast    hard   ---> hard

Be careful! Use an adjective, NOT an adverb,  after these verbs

be, look, feel, smell, taste
I am happy                        That smells good!
You look silly                    Chocolate taste nice
I sometimes feel sad

You can make the comparative and superlative of most adverbs like this.

Add more and the most

Adverb       Comparative           Superlative

Quickly       more quickly           the most quickly
Slowly         more slowly            the most slowly
easily           more easily             the most easily

Be careful! These adverbs are different it is a good idea to learn them

He goes to bed later than me.
I sing worse than he does
Anything you can do I can do better
Of all my friends. I eat the least

Sometimes you want to say that there is not a difference between the people, animals, and things that you are talking about. They are the same.

You can use as ..... as to do this. Look!

He runs as fast as me. = We both run equally fast
You get up as early as I do = We both get up at the same time

You can also use not as ..... as to say that there is a difference Look:

She does not cook as well as I do. = We both get up at the same time
I can not do maths as quickly as he can. = He is quicker at maths than me.

Thanks for your attention. You can write in the comments. I can help you.

The most dangerous fish in all the sea is bigger than you and fatter than me. His teeth are as sharp as a butcher´s knife and his tail is as long as a train. he is hungrier than a dinosaur but I can not remember his name!

Comparative adjectives are to talk about the difference between three or more people, animals or things.

He is bigger than you.    He is fatter than me.

Superlative adjectives are to talk about the difference between three or more people, animals or things

He is the most dangerous fish in the sea
This is the smallest boat in the harbour.

To make the comparative and superlative of most one-syllable adjectives ADD er and est to the adjective.

Adjective                       Comparative                        Superlative

Old                                Older                                    The oldest

But be careful when you sell theses:

Fat                                 fatter                                     The fallest
Big                                 Bigger                                   The biggest

Wide                              Wider                                    The widest

To make the comparative and superlative of most adjectives with more than one syllable: add more or most

Adjective                       Comparative                        Superlative

Careful                            More careful                          The most careful
Dangerous                       More dangerous                    The most dangerous
Expensive                        More expensive                     The most expensive

Some adjectives with more than one syllable end in y.
Change y to I add er or est

Adjetice                           Comparative                          Superlative

Easy                                  easier                                      The easiest
Funny                                funnier                                     The funniest
Heavy                                heavier                                    The heaviest

Some adjectives behave badly! You should know theses ones but if you do not learn them now.

Good                                 better                                      the best
bad                                    worse                                      the worst
far                                      further                                     the furthest

Sometimes you want to say that there is not a difference between the people, animals, and things that you are talking about. They are the same. You can use as ..... as to do this. Look:

He is as tall as I am. = we are both the same height.
His tail is as long as a train. = His tail is the same length as a train.
